Why the Neon Museum Became One of My Favorite Places in Las Vegas

 I have lived in Las Vegas for several years, and one question I get all the time is, "What should I do besides the casinos?"

My answer is almost always the same: visit the Neon Museum.

One of the things I love most about living in Las Vegas is getting to revisit places that never lose their magic. The Neon Museum is one of those places for me. I have visited many times over the years, and I was even lucky enough to experience it before it officially opened to the public in 2008, back when visits were by reservation only. Every time I return, I notice something new and leave with an even greater appreciation for the city's incredible history.

This visit was extra special because I experienced Brilliance again, the immersive light and sound show that brings the museum's iconic signs back to life. It was another reminder that Las Vegas is so much more than casinos and luxury resorts. Behind every neon sign is a story of ambition, reinvention, and the people who helped build one of the most recognizable cities in the world.

As soon as you walk in, you are surrounded by pieces of Las Vegas that many people have forgotten. Giant neon signs from hotels, casinos, restaurants, and businesses that once defined the city now have a second life here. Some are beautifully restored, while others have been left just as they were found, giving the whole place a nostalgic and almost magical feeling.

I found myself slowing down, reading the stories behind the signs, and imagining what Las Vegas looked like decades ago. It is amazing how something as simple as an old sign can hold so much history.

Then came Brilliance, and honestly, it completely changed the experience.

Instead of simply looking at vintage signs, they suddenly came alive through lights, music, and projection mapping. Watching the old neon glow again, even if only through technology, felt surprisingly emotional. It is hard to explain until you see it yourself. For about half an hour, you are transported through the different eras of Las Vegas, watching the city evolve before your eyes.

Every corner seemed made for photos, you will leave with some incredible shots on your phone. If you can, try to visit close to sunset. You get the best of both worlds: beautiful natural light for the museum and the colorful glow once the evening begins.

What I appreciate most was that the Neon Museum feels authentic. It is not trying to be flashy. Instead, it celebrates the people, businesses, and dreams that built Las Vegas into the city we know today.
