Why I Don’t Recommend Visiting Vegas During F1 Week (Unless You’re Going to the Race)
Las Vegas is gearing up for the Formula 1 Grand Prix, and while the city looks stunning in all the promo videos, the reality for visitors (and locals!) during race week is a very different story.
If you’re planning to visit Vegas but not attend F1, here’s what you should know:
🚧 Massive Road Closures and Blocked Views
The Strip is being turned into a racetrack — literally. This means many of the best viewpoints, walkways, and even pedestrian bridges are either closed or heavily restricted. The famous Bellagio fountains? Blocked by grandstands.
Many of the city’s most iconic photo spots and experiences are completely blocked — including the Bellagio fountains, Paris Las Vegas views, and the LINQ promenade area near the High Roller. Pedestrian bridges are restricted or rerouted, making it hard to walk between hotels. Even simple things like crossing from Bellagio to Caesars can take 30+ minutes.
💸 Sky-High Prices
Hotel rates, Uber rides, and even food prices have skyrocketed. Some hotels are charging triple their usual rates, and many restaurants require reservations weeks in advance or are reserved for race package guests only.
🔊 Constant Noise and Traffic
Rehearsals, practice runs, and the race itself mean loud engines echoing through the city almost all day. Add in traffic jams and limited parking, and you’ve got one of the least relaxing weeks to experience Vegas.
🏎️ Who Should Still Come
If you’re an F1 fan and have tickets — go for it! The energy, the spectacle, and the atmosphere will be unforgettable. But if you’re visiting for the shows, the food, or to enjoy the Strip’s views and vibe, you’ll likely find the experience frustrating instead of fun.
As a local guide, my honest advice: plan your Vegas trip either before or after the F1 weekend. You’ll save money, skip the chaos, and actually get to see the city — not just the back of grandstands and traffic cones. And I would love to be able to tour you around!
